In conjunction with the theme of White Night 2015, namely the sea, which is closely linked to the concept of the Museum’s current temporary exhibition Summer Days. From Sorolla to Hopper, we are offering a “boat trip” around the museum which concludes with the brilliant final work in the exhibition, Edward Hopper’s The “Martha Mckeen” of Wellfleet.
The theme of the sea is first reflected on the Museum’s exterior with special illumination of the façade that will transform the building into a symbolic place, an imaginary sea, subtly filled with paper boats.
Once inside, visitors can enter a museum space unexpectedly transformed by these paper boats. In the manner of an installation they will encourage a reflection on the idea of “freedom” through messages left for us by well-known figures such as Miguel Hernández, Martin Luther King, Paulo Freire, Amelia Earhart and Charles Bukowski.
Participants in Night on a boat can follow the standard instructions for building their boat on the basis of these messages, arriving at a personal or collective definition of the concept of “freedom”.
