The Force of Destiny
Hermen Anglada-Camarasa. Gypsy Dance, c.1914-1921
Anglada-Camarasa’s work expresses the mood of the fin-de-siècle period then evolved over time towards other idioms and subjects. Women were the permanent focus of his oeuvre. This lecture particularly emphasises his relationships with other figures of the period who coincided with the artist in late 19th-century Paris and subsequently in Majorca.

Works of art recount stories and tell us much about their era and their creators, bringing us closer to the experience discovered by each artist. Works are guardians of memory and once they have entered a museum and lose their original context, our task is to return them to their own period and to rediscover the story behind their origins, recreating the moment and the circumstances in which they were created.
