Wanting to remember (Voices of Memory)
24 de marzo de 2012It was the participants in the adult visit Typical Spanish, which is one of the Museum’s educational activities, who suggested the starting point for the creation of this video.
During the visit we talked about the clichés and stereotypes that are associated with identity as related to place of origin, discussing them with the aim of deconstructing them and of identifying their origins in the 19th century.
As the participants looked at the paintings, inevitably recalling relevant lines from popular songs, there were increasing references to the building before it became a museum, either when it was a draper’s or later as the well-known Almacenes Álvarez, which sold lighting, china and glass. The building was thus part of the childhood memories of this group.
Voices of Memory is an action-research project that has used different audiovisual formats to create a participative video installation. The project has set out to establish relationships between the past and present, taking the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga as the focus point for the construction of a potential collective memory.
